Tests of the questionnaires

For this major survey, we plan to interview 8-year-olds children and their parents, as well as children under 1 year old. The ambition of this project is to follow them until they are 24 years old.

A pilot survey, which involved 5 countries (Croatia, Finland, France, Ireland, Slovenia) took place in 2023.
It was preceded by a test phase of the questionnaires with a few families between December 2021 and January 2022.

Why make a test?

Before conducting this large survey, it is imperative to test our questionnaire.

We need to make sure that all the words and concepts are understood by the children and their parents.

Your participation is essential for us to improve our questionnaire and launch a new survey.

How were the tests conducted?

WHEN?

Between December 2021 and January 2022

WHO?

  • Children between 7 and 9 years old
  • Parents of children between 7 and 9 years old
  • Parents of children between 6 and 12 months

HOW?

  • An interviewer came to meet with parents and children who volunteered to complete a questionnaire. This exchange was recorded in order to collect all the remarks and to be sure not to miss any. This interview lasted approximately 1 hour for parents and 30 minutes for children.
  • The interviewers are researchers and engineers from the French Institute for Demographic Studies, with extensive experience in conducting surveys.

AND THEN?

  • An ID number was provided to ensure the anonymity of the participants and their access to the data. The answers to the questions will be kept in a safe place for a maximum of 1 month after the end of the project.
  • In total, about twenty children and ten parents participated in the questionnaire tests in France.
This allowed us to target the parts of the questionnaire that lacked precision, as well as the concepts that were complex to understand and that required clarification.
Depending on the feedback from other countries involved in these tests, the final questionnaire will be modified.

Thank you for your participation!
