The survey
The Growing Up In Digital Europe (GUIDE) / EuroCohort survey will be Europe’s first comparative birth cohort survey on child well-being. It will be an important source of high quality longitudinal statistical evidence to support the development of social policies which will enhance the wellbeing of children, young people and their families across Europe for many years to come.
Research
Today, few data exist to assess the child well-being situation in Europe in comparison to rest of the world. The GUIDE/EuroCohort survey aims to fill in all these gaps and to conduct a large longitudinal European survey that is comparable between countries.

This section is dedicated to the parents and children who participate in the GUIDE/EuroCohort survey. What is the progress of the project? What are your rights in terms of data protection? What are the next steps? Information will be regularly updated to inform you.

Current activities

· The pilot survey

The pilot survey brought together the 4 partner countries that participated in the testing of the questionnaires (Croatia, Ireland, Finland and France), as well as Slovenia, in order to test the content and structure of the questionnaires, their translation and the functioning of the CAPI tools (allowing for a fully computerized questionnaire).

This pilot took place between March and May 2023.
51 interviewers throughout France were recruited and trained in the 3 survey questionnaires

In total, they were able to interview :

- 230 children aged 8
- 230 parents of 8-year-olds
- 203 parents of children under one year old

· Development of survey questionnaires

The GUIDE/EuroCohort survey includes 3 questionnaires for :

8 year old children
carers of 8 year old children
carers of newborns

They will be questioned on all aspects of children’s well-being, through questions on socio-demographic and economic elements, values and opinions, health, housing conditions, elements on pregnancy, birth, education, childcare, leisure and sports activities, aspirations.

The questionnaires were finalized in November 2021 in order to conduct initial tests and to allow for subsequent adjustments.
